Avalon Gets $100,000 Federal Grant For Harbor Upgrades

Thursday, December 09, 2004

Log News Service - The City of Avalon on Santa Catalina Island will receive a $100,000 federal grant, which it will use to upgrade its fuel, dock, replace an existing dinghy dock, and add a public restroom in Avalon Harbor.
The California Department of Boating and Waterways said in a Dec. 2 release that Avalon will receive a National Boating Infrastructure Grant.

“The federal government provides these funds to states for projects that will improve recreational opportunities and safe harbors for transient boaters. The facilities also help the economies of waterfront communities,” said Cal Boating Director Ray Tsuneyoshi.

Boating Infrastructure Grant funds are provided to states for projects to install or upgrade visitor tie-up facilities for 26-foot or longer recreational boats at marinas.

The grant program is open to all marinas as long as there is public access.

Eligible project categories under the program include the renovation or construction of visitor docks, restrooms, gangways, and dockside utility hookups.
